Main Street Radford

Incentive Program Application

Contact the Main Street Radford office at 731-3656 for an application. Businesses and property owners are welcome to apply. The application needs to be filled out and submitted with 2 written bids from contractors that show design layouts, dimensions, proposed colors, estimates, pictures and drawings, prior to work being done. The application must be signed by the property owner. Higher priority will be given to properties in the historic districts and to level of impact. Please note that if property owner is doing historic rehabilitation according the Department of Interior Standards that the property owner is indeed eligible for this incentive. ___ Awning provides 50% of the cost up to a maximum of $1,000 to replace or add awnings to the front of a building. Some restrictions to styles and color exist.

___ Façade provides 50% of the cost of façade improvements up to a maximum of $6,000.

___ Paint provides 50% of the cost of paint for façade and interior public spaces. For interior space the maximum cap is up to $1,000 and for exterior façade the maximum cap is up to $2000. Recipients of this incentive must adhere to an established color scheme for the historic districts. The options for paint scheme are the Arts & Crafts and the Victorian color wheel available at Sherwin-Williams or Lowe’s.

___ Sign provides 50% of the cost of an approved sign, up to a maximum of $1,000. Signs must follow the sign ordinance established by the City of Radford. The types of signs used should be compatible with the building and store front as well as fit the overall character of the downtown area.

A. AWNING PROGRAM

Awning Guidelines: The overall color scheme of the awning should be chosen from the existing color wheel. Colors chosen outside of the color wheel are subject to approval from the Economic restructuring committee. The selection of awning types, materials, and their placement should be carefully coordinated and be compatible with the characteristics of the building and conditions along the street. Standard slanted fabric awnings, either fixed or retractable.

B. PAINT PROGRAM

Paint Guidelines: Main Street

Radford has established a current color scheme for the historic district available at a locally owned business. Options for paint scheme are: Arts & Crafts and the Victorian color wheel – available at Sherwin Williams or at Lowe's. Selection of a color outside of the color wheel will require approval by the Design Committee before reimbursement can be approved.

D. FAÇADE

Façade Maintenance Renovation: Remodel storefronts in a way that

respects the original configuration and materials of traditional storefront design;

reconstruct the original storefront if missing; or design a new storefront that

respects the character, materials, and design of the building. Can include brick re-pointing, doors, windows, molding and trim. Design Guidelines are available at the Main Street
office.
